Over the last two days, and especially today, Central Pennsylvania received a large amount of heavy rains, which lead to moderate flooding, flooded basements, and closed roads.
While not the high levels seen in September 2011 from Lee, these are most likely the highest levels since. In 2011 during Lee, Skyrush was under construction, so this is the first large flood Skyrush has seen (that's the reason the 'Rush footers are so large!)
Also, many of the at-risk animals at Zoo America
were moved to safe locations, and all the animals are safe, since many of you are likely wondering about that. UPDATE
: ZooAmerica is OPEN today, Saturday, from 10am-5pm. The Park is closed as scheduled because of the Car Show.
ALT was outside the park earlier this evening, lets take a look...
Storm Runner and Trailblazer.
Down by Skyrush.
This is usually where the dam would be along the Skyrush path, but it's all pretty much level, until the water recedes, which should be tomorrow.
The water almost up to the top of the stone wall along the Skyrush path, the water level was a bit higher before we got there.
If you look closely, to the left of the wheel, you can see the Skyrush cable is covered with debris; leaves and such.
So, all-in-all, while the flooding at the park is pretty concerning, it doesn't appear like there is any major physical damage, beyond knocked over trash cans and shuffled picnic tables. I am sure the park will be in tip-top shape in time for the October 18th opening of Hersheypark in the Dark!
